A Paucity of Water? opus 905

1 August 2026 1054 Hours Conservation, Climate, Environment, Politics
'Water, water, everywhere; nor a drop to drink.'
That was the lament of a sailor on the sea (Coleridge).
Through our carelessness and lack of monitoring,
Our fresh water supply in portions of the earth
Has resulted in many deluges of rainy storms,
But elsewhere, drought has reigned with diminishing rivers.
With no rivers, how will our West, especially, survive?
This all reminds me of my African Kalahari safari.
We progressed in our tiny convoy from well to well.
Every evening each of us participants was presented
With a basin filled with one inch of water.
This daily allotment was used for a modest body rinse,
Or to refresh our socks for a modest, clean resuscitation.
Must we eventually pipe water across our nation,
As we now blithely pipe gas and oil to areas in need?
